Habitat Work Day Information Sheet

Build Schedule Dates for Holy Trinity

Thanks for volunteering to work on the Habitat house. We are building the house for the Sudduth family. Some information on them is in this packet.

Directions and PARKING:  See the map at the end of this packet for the directions to the site and parking.

DRESS:  Wear work boots or sturdy gym shoes; jeans or work clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.  Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. Loose fitting clothing should be avoided because they can catch on ladders or tools.

WHAT DO YOU BRING?:  You must complete and bring with you the Release and Waiver of Liability (attached).  Bring work gloves, hammer, measuring tape, pencil, tool belt and nail apron if you have them.  Put your name on anything you want to be sure to get back.  Some tools will be available there, but if you have your own, it saves you from the possibility of there not being enough to go around.  For those working in the morning, a breakfast will be provided starting at 7:30. Lunch will be provided for both morning and afternoon crews starting at 11:30. Water will be available during the day at the site.

BE SAFETY CONSCIOUS!!  If you ever have safety questions concerning a task assigned to you, please talk to the house leader or a crew leader. Look before you hammer!  Being accidentally hit or hitting someone else with a hammer can be avoided if we are aware of those around us. Only lift loads that you feel comfortable with and use your legs instead of your back. With so many volunteers on site, there are always enough hands to help out. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. If you have waited until you are actually thirsty, it is too late! Be aware of your body’s response to high humidity and heat. Do not overwork yourself and rest as needed.

CANCELLATIONS:  If the weather is so bad that you don’t want to work, don’t go. Otherwise, if it is unpleasant but tolerable, work will be going on.

PLEASE FILL OUT, PRINT AND BRING WITH YOU TO THE BUILD

Directions to Highway 9 Site

Going North:

  •  Take Ga 400 North to Exit 11- Windward Parkway .

  • Exit on Windward Parkway to the left at the traffic light.
  • Continue West on Windward Parkway to Highway 9 ~ 2 miles
  • Turn right on Highway 9 (At the BP/Amoco Gas station)
  • Continue North on Highway 9 for ~ ½ to 1 mile. (Passing Fry electronics on the right.)
  • On your left you will see Centennial Village .  The entrance street is Genesis Way .  Across the street is a huge construction site for a Super Target store.

If you are coming via Highway 9, you should remain on Highway 9 either from the Roswell area or from the Cumming area.  Centennial Village is on Highway 9 –left if going north and right if traveling south.

Parking is on site in the undeveloped lots except when it has rained and the lots are muddy.  In this case park one block south of the village.  There is an open field on the right side of Highway 9 going south.  Park there and walk back to the site on the sidewalk.
